Cobbett's Wey
DFAS - The Farnham evening NADFAS Fine Arts Society was formed in January 2004. The aim is to provide top
quality lectures on the arts for people who are perhaps working and only
able to attend in the evenings. Visits to places of interest, often only
open to groups, are also organised. We plan to keep the Society
small so that the members can get to know each other and so that the
lectures are a social occasion as well as an informative one. For
that reason a glass of wine is included in the membership fee. We
fully agree with the founder of NADFAS, Patricia Fay, who said
“Above all, NADFAS must be fun”. We chose the name 'Cobbett's Wey DFAS'
to remind us of
William Cobbett one of Farnham's more famous sons and, of
course, the
River Wey which flows through the town.
Cobbett's Wey
DFAS - The Farnham evening NADFAS Fine Arts Society
wants to encourage enjoyment of the arts among young
people and awards two annual bursaries to art students. We also
offer a limited number of students’ free admission to our lectures.
In 2007 we took part in an Arts project together with the PTA group
at a local primary school, to enable the students to explore art, in
their classes.
There are
opportunities for members to become involved in Church Recording,
nationally over 1,000 churches have had their furnishings and fabric
recorded by this group, and with the Heritage Volunteers, who preserve
and conserve books, textiles and works of art.
A copy of the
national magazine, The NADFAS Review, is delivered to members’ homes
quarterly. This provides news of NADFAS activities nationally and ideas
of what is available for members’ participation, including courses at
both national and local level.
Members are welcome
to bring guests along to the lectures for a small fee.
