The Yellow House – Van Gogh and Gauguin in Arles
Lecture by Juliet Heslewood

When Van Gogh moved to Arles in 1888 he hoped to encourage other artists to join him, but Gauguin alone made the journey. The lecture includes images created before and after the period in Arles, but concentrates on those brief, but highly significant, three months spent in The Little Yellow House.

Textiles of the Silk Route

The Silk Route stretched from the western edge of China, through Central Asia, Syria and Turkey to the great trading cities of Europe.  The most visible of the products carried were the textiles.  The lecture will cover the history, people and cities along the route.

The term “Magi” refers to the Zoroastrian priest-sages, anonymous wise men who were specialists in medicine, religion and astronomy. The adoration of the Magi is one of the most popular religious subjects for the great artists and we follow their work over five centuries starting in 12th century Pisa.

Cobbett's Wey DFAS has now been invited to visit the gardens at Highgrove House, the home of HRH Prince of Wales.

TRINITY COLLEGE, OXFORD.  LUNCH IN THE DINING ROOM PRECEDED BY HISTORY OF THE CHAPEL BY JOHN HEMSLEY (Cobbett's Wey member and Trinity man).  The afternoon's activities are still under discussion at this stage.  Booking May.

THE COLLEGE OF ARMS (Queen Victoria Street, London) - Tour and talk given by Bluemantle Pursuivant followed by finger buffet. 20 people on each occasion.  Cost £25.00 per head.
