With the ‘mood’ of art, poetry ranging from the 6th to the 20th century, and the diversity of music from Prokofiev to Piazzolla, a ‘synthesis of the arts’, illustrating the seasons is produced, performed and explored.

David Hockney; art as a biography
Lecture by Peter Webb

Hockney is now probably England’s favourite artist. This lecture gives an insightful account of the way his work has related to his life. This is reflected in his rich store of intellectual knowledge about the nature of art. The friendship of our speaker with Hockney since the ‘70s led to the publication of his biography in 1989.

Christmas and Other Festivals in Modern Mexico

The vast range of festivals held in Mexico are visually splendid, the majority of which are inspired by religion. This lecture describes and illustrates the elaborate nativity scenes and Christmas story acted out in towns and villages.

Visit to Avington Park, Hampshire - a tour of the house. A hidden gem! William Cobbett described Avington as 'one of the prettiest places in the County'. A light lunch in the Orangery, followed by a guided tour of the village. 'Afintun', an Anglo-Saxon settlement, was mentioned in the Saxon Charters. St Mary's Georgian church has a rare example of a church barrel organ.

 Autumn
Visit and guided tour of the Royal Festival Hall made possible by one of our Members who is the Managing Director of the Philarmonia Orchestra. Opportunity to meet members of the orchestra, supper is followed by the concert.
